Meeting at the Bellevue Botanical Garden

I hope that late February's cold snap didn't damage your early emerging plants! There have already been several early plant sales and it finally feels like spring is right around the corner!

Our March meeting is coming up; this month will feature Linda Beutler speaking about 'Clematis for Rock Gardens and Beyond'. Here is some more information about Linda:

Linda Beutler is Curator of the Rogerson Clematis Garden in West Linn, Oregon and author of Gardening With Clematis and Plant Lovers Guide to Clematis.

With 1700 individual clematis representing over 700 distinct species or cultivars, the Rogerson Clematis Garden contains the most comprehensive collection of clematis within a public garden in North America. Started by Brewster Rogerson in 1971, the collection contains unique and exceptionally rare plants, as well as historic clematis and the newest hybrids.

Linda Beutler’s passion for plants—and specifically clematis—has most recently manifested itself with the publication of Plant Lover’s Guide to Clematis (Timber Press, 2016). Linda has gardened as long as she can remember, and has been fueling the passion of new gardeners as adjunct faculty in the horticulture department at Clackamas Community College since fall term 1996. Other than clematis, her personal garden bears witness to a stout collecting chromosome: old garden roses, enkianthus and pittosporums, more daylilies than can be called wise, honeysuckles (because one genus of vining thugs isn’t enough), and she will try any herbaceous perennial pea. There are dozens of sarracenias for no good reason other than abject fascination.

Mindful that if you follow your passion a career may follow, Linda just celebrated her tenth anniversary as curator of the Rogerson Clematis Collection and is about to complete two terms as President of the International Clematis Society. Linda lectures nationally on numerous gardening topics, is a garden writer for both local and national publications including Pacific Horticulture, and has made numerous appearances on Portland’s Garden Time TV.
