we wouldn't be where we are today without the dedication of these members
The Northwestern Chapter of NARGS has a long history and we have had many dedicated members who, with their passion, knowledge, and generosity have helped us get to where we are today. This page is dedicated to those wonderful people who are no longer with us. Thanks to all of you for everything you have done, for the chapter, for the community, and for rock gardening.

Frances Roberson
Frances was witness to the history of our chapter from its establishment in 1934 until her passing in 2002. In addition to a career as a partner in a nursery specializing in rock garden plants, primroses, and rhododendrons, she was a prolific writer, penning a weekly column for Northwest Gardens and Homes magazine for more than ten years. She served in many positions both with our chapter and with the national organization. She served as chapter president from 1971-1972, received the ARGS Award of Merit in 1977, and the Northwestern Chapter service award in 1992.
Dr. Ned Lowry
Ned was a chapter member from the 1970s until his passing in 2015 and he and his wife Betty had a passion for plants--and for seeing them in the wild--that was well known. Their garden was legendary and was always a tour stop for visiting members of the rock garden community. Ned was the chapter's resident technology guru, and managed the chapter website and prepared the yearbook for many years. He was actively involved in the transition to our current website until just a few days before his passing.
