February talk: Hardy Fuchsias by Tammy Brown

SUNDAY, February 16, at 11:00 am

Meeting at the Bellevue Botanical Garden

The February chapter meeting is coming up! Please note that this month we are trying something new: since many folks don't like to drive in the dark at night to winter meetings, the February meeting will be SUNDAY, February 16, at 11:00 am, at the BBG.

This month will feature Tammy Brown of the Olympia Fuchsia Society speaking on "Hardy Fuchsias". Social time starts at 10:30 am; meeting begins at 11:00 am.

Here is a bio of Tammy that she provided us!

My name is Tammy Brown and I have been a member of Northwest Fuchsia Society (NWFS) since 2007. I am a self-taught fuchsia nut. I began honing my skills and knowledge about fuchsias in 2008 when I started my own nursery. I entered my first fuchsia show where I won 10 blue ribbons for my entries and the Novice Award. That’s where I got really hooked and over the years have won many more awards, including 4 Best in Show. I am currently the NWFS Secretary, a Master Grower, a NWFS Certified Fuchsia Show Judge, the NWFS Show and Sale Chairman and work all aspects of our judged fuchsia show and plant sale in September. My hobbies include learning how to grow fuchsias in new ways, researching fuchsias and finding lost varieties.

I have been an ongoing member of Northwest Fuchsia Society since 2007. Past member of Puyallup Fuchsia Society, Fuchsia Fanciers in Centralia and Tahoma Fuchsia Society in Lakewood. I am the current President of both Eastside Fuchsia Society in Bellevue and Olympia Fuchsia Society. I do monthly fuchsia culture talks and monthly fuchsia demonstrations for our members.

In 2013, I joined with The Earthworks Fuchsias in Covington, where I manage the upright and hardy fuchsias. We carry over 500 different varieties of upright and trailing fuchsias in the spring and ship fuchsias to all 50 states.

I began speaking with customers at Farmer's Markets in 2008 and in 2015, I was asked if I would be able to do a “talk” at a fuchsia club meeting. That started me speaking to groups of interested people. These groups include fuchsia clubs, garden clubs and master gardeners

Hope to see you there!
